Once among the richest and safest countries in Latin America, Venezuela is now falling apart. Tens of thousands are going hungry or even starving and the average shopper spends 35 hours a month waiting in line, while the murder rate is among the highest in the world – yet Venezuela’s socialist government is more entrenched than ever as a sense of hopelessness has settled over what was once among the richest nations in South America.
Pope Francis delivered another criticism of some members of his own Church on Thursday, suggesting it is better to be an atheist than one of "many" Catholics who he said lead a hypocritical double life. Less than two months after his election, he said Christians should see atheists as good people if they do good.
